Ignighter – Group Dating

Single, fresh out of college and living in New York City, Adam Sachs and Dan Osit should have been in the prime of their dating lives.

Instead, they found themselves hanging out night after night with the same group of college friends. Meeting new people, they quickly learned, was hard. And the prospect of shopping for romance on an online dating site seemed scary and a little desperate.

So Sachs and Osit, both 25, came up with their own idea: an online dating site where groups of friends could register to go on low-pressure group dates with others looking to meet new people. “In real life, we don’t create our own blind dates,” Sachs said. “In nature, this is the way we behave.”

The New Jersey natives turned their idea into Ignighter – a new application they launched on the social networking site Facebook – to help friends set up group dates. The concept has been successful enough to prompt the pair to quit their jobs and launch Ignighter as a full-fledged dating Web site.Their concept is part of a growing trend in the lucrative online dating market – harnessing the power of friends. Several sites are tapping into the idea that most real-world relationships begin, like it or not, with the help and influence of friends and family.

Cybermatchmaking is serious business. Internet dating is a $649 million industry and the number of dating sites is booming as niche sites pop up offering to match singles based on their religion, profession, hobbies and races.

Some 11 percent of all Internet users and 37 percent of those who are single and looking say they have used a dating Web site; 17 percent say they’ve married or entered into a long-term relationship with someone they met online, according to a 2006 survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, a nonprofit group that studies Internet use.

But the Internet dating industry is changing. Traditional dating sites are facing growing competition from MySpace, Facebook and other social networking sites that offer free ways for users to meet potential love interests.

Sachs and Osit, the developers of Ignighter, first took their idea to Facebook. The popular networking site allows Web developers free reign to introduce no-cost tools for Facebook users to do everything from play Scrabble to compare movie tastes and communicate with friends.

The pair introduced Ignighter on Facebook in late November. Several thousand users from the U.S. to Canada and Australia have signed up with their friends. Groups browse online through the profiles other groups registered through the service. If they find a group in their area that looks interesting, they arrange a date.

Stephanie Frasco, 25, and two of her friends recently met three guys through Ignighter. The date was safer and less stressful than a one-on-one blind date, she said.

“It wasn’t like a match made in heaven. But, we all had a good time,” said Frasco, of New York City.

Sachs and Osit recruited a veteran online dating executive to help them turn the service into a profit-making Web site. Sachs and Osit each quit their corporate jobs in New York to concentrate on launching the new dating site. The friends, both single, are also using Ignighter to look for love. They have been on several group dates with women they met through the Ignighter application on Facebook.

There haven’t been any love matches yet. But a recent group date at a bar in Manhattan may lead to something more, Sachs said. “We all really had a great time. I think we’re going to see them again soon,” Sachs said.

Petaminz – Improve Your Pet’s Health

We all know that it is important for us, humans, to consume sufficient vitamins daily for our bodies to function properly. We all chose to take our vitamins differently; they could be taken by the food we eat, or even by taking supplementary pills. Both ways work fine and equally if consumed properly. Without vitamins, our bodies would have difficulties performing our normal daily tasks; such as fighting infections, building our immune system, thinking, laughing, running, smiling, working, sleeping and the list goes on.

As vitamins help us humans to be healthier and stronger, it also works the same way for our pets. Since pets are not able to determine what’s best for them, they rely on us to choose their own health decisions and it is essential to do what’s best for them. It is a proven fact that nutritional supplements can lead to a better health and a stronger resistance to diseases. Lack of vitamins, for both our pets and ourselves, could lead to long term illnesses. Pet supplements (Petaminz for cats and dogs) guarantees that your companion will daily receive the sufficient nutritional package that he or she needs for a great vitality and a strong quality of life. If your pet is sick, Petaminz helps boost up the immune system, fight off the disease and heal faster. If your pet is healthy at the moment, with this pet supplement your cat or dog will remain healthy and stay strong for a longer period of time.

Consult your veterinarian about any suspected health problems. If your pet suffers from lack of energy, unpleasant digestive system or vulnerability to infections; it is possible that it could be due to shortage of vitamins in your pet’s diet.

Verticco – Your Cookware Headquarters

What Type of Cookware is Right for You?

To paraphrase Gertrude Stein; a pan is a pan is a pan… except in the case of Ms. Stein, hers’ was a rose and in the case of cookware nothing can be farther from the truth. The type of cookware you use has a significant influence on the look, taste and texture of the food you are preparing.

When choosing the right type of cookware for your kitchen you should consider factors beyond budget and appearance. Quality cookware will outlast the cheaper stuff and save you money over time. The look and taste of your meals will be far more important than the pots they are cooked in. Still, with the abundant choices of materials, sizes and brands out there, how do you know what type of cookware to buy?

  • Aluminum cookware is generally the least expensive type of cookware, it’s lightweight so it’s easier to handle and store. The drawback of aluminum is that food items that have a high acid content can react with the pan and distort the flavor of the food.
  • Anodized Aluminum has a special finish that protects it from corrosion and reduces sticking, so it has some benefits over traditional aluminum pots and pans. However, the same finish is not dishwasher safe making clean up more difficult. Also, the dark cooking surface makes it harder to detect the contrast in food color and makes it easier to burn food.
  • Cast Iron cookware is a good choice for frying and slow cooking. Because it takes longer to heat up, you will wind up burning fewer items, it also takes longer to cool down and holds even heat longer. Cast Iron skillets can even be placed inside the oven so that you can go straight from pan frying to broiling without dirtying another piece of cookware. The drawbacks are that cast iron cookware can be heavy and, if not cared for, can rust and pit.
  • Copper cookware heats up quickly and cools down quickly too. It is probably the best looking type of cookware on the market, but it can also be the most expensive. One problem with copper is that it interacts with the food and can easily change the taste – salty foods can taste metallic and so on.
  • Porcelain or enamel cookware is usually simply a coating above another material such as iron or aluminum. It is intended to have the benefit of the metal without the chemical reaction with the food.  Painted enamel pots and pans can also be decorative and come in colors to match your kitchen. A porcelain pan cannot be used for frying but can still be used to heat up sauces or soups.
  • Stainless Steel cookware does not corrode, does not stain and does not interact with the food to change the flavor of your meal. Stainless Steel also requires little care and cleans easily. The downfall of stainless steel pots and pans are that they don’t conduct heat well and your food may not cook evenly.

When shopping for cookware you will find many choices of material, some cookware will even combine materials so that you will find the core of a better conducting material with the surface of a less corrosive material.

New Cooking Blog Launched – CookingWeekly!

How do you get started on healthy eating?

Healthy eating starts with learning new ways to eat, such as adding more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and cutting back on foods that have a lot of fat, salt, and sugar. A change to healthier eating also includes learning about balance, variety, and moderation.

Aim for balance

Most days, eat from each food group-grains, vegetables, fruits, milk, and meat and other proteins, including beans. Listen to your body. Eat when you’re hungry. Stop when you feel satisfied.

Look for variety

Be adventurous. Choose different foods in each food group. For example, don’t reach for an apple every time you choose a fruit. Eating a variety of foods each day will help you get all the nutrients you need.

Practice moderation

Don’t have too much or too little of one thing. All foods, if eaten in moderation, can be part of healthy eating. Even sweets can be okay.

Why pay attention to what you eat?

Healthy eating will help you get the right balance of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. It will help you feel your best and have plenty of energy.

Healthy eating is one of the best things you can do to prevent health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, and even some types of cancer.

Is healthy eating the same as going on a diet?

Healthy eating is not a diet. It means making changes you can live with and enjoy for the rest of your life.

Diets are temporary. Because you give up so much when you diet, you may be hungry and think about food all the time. And after you stop dieting, you also may overeat to make up for what you missed.

Eating a healthy, balanced variety of foods is far more satisfying. And if you match that with more physical activity, you are more likely to get to a healthy weight-and stay there-than if you diet.

How do you make healthy eating a habit?

First, think about your reasons for healthier eating. Do you want to improve your health? Do you want to feel better? Are you trying to set an example for your kids? Next, think about some small changes you can make. Pick ones you can keep doing. Don’t try to change everything at once. Set an easy goal you can reach, like having a salad and a piece of fruit each day. Make a long-term goal too, such as having one vegetarian dinner a week.

Where can you get support?

Having support from others can be a huge help. The more support you have, the easier it will be to make changes.
